Benedikt Haerlin has over 30 years of experience in the area of GMOs. As an MEP, he helped to draft the EU’s first GMO regulations. He then launched Greenpeace’s global GMO campaign and represented the organisation in the creation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and in the UN’s IAASTD assessment. He also founded several German and European seed and farming initiatives, including Save Our Seeds and the 2000m² ’global fields’ (‘Weltäcker’) initiative.
Franziska Achterberg used to be a Greenpeace campaigner for 13 years, focusing on pesticides, GMOs and other topics. Before joining Save Our Seeds in 2024, she spent four years with the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, working on biodiversity issues, including GMOs, forests and oceans.
Akiko Frid has been involved in GMO campaigns since 1996. She participated in the Codex Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology (TFFDB) on behalf of Consumers International, and worked on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety on behalf of Greenpeace International. Akiko has been a GMO campaigner with Greenpeace Japan and Greenpeace Sweden. She joined the team in 2012 to organise the GMO-free Europe conferences.
