The Panel
on genetically modified organisms carries out risk assessment of GMOs
for food and feed and co-ordinates the risk assessment for cultivation
of GMOs under Directive 2001/18/EC and Regulation 1829/2003 in order to
prepare Commission proposals for their approval or rejection. It is comprised
of 20 scientists from 13 member states.
